6-7/11/14 - The 2nd EWAS Work Meeting in Barcelona, Spain

All EWAS partners participated in the two-day meeting, which was held with great success, on the 6th and 7th of November 2014, in the town of Vilanova near Barcelona.

The meeting was hosted by ENT, and was attended Ignacio García and José Antonio Cabo from Wellness Telecom, Ignasi Puig, Marta Jofra and Maria Calaf from ENT, Aida Anthouli from D-Waste, Kostas Paterakis, Iraklis Karabatsakis and Panagiotis Chatzirakis from DEDISA, and Francisco Serrano and Andrés Ferrete from Lipasam.

The first day was dedicated to the progress of the project so far. There were presentations from all partners regarding the existing Chania and Seville waste collection systems, as well as the deliverables made until then, as the Project website, and social media pages, the report on the Environmental, Technical, Economical, Operational, and Social Requirements of the project, and the Communication Plan. Special attention was given to the next steps of the project.

The second day was about the application of the eGarbage platform in the two pilot cities Chania and Seville. During the discussion issues about the special needs of the two cities were addressed on the different conditions of the waste collection in the cities. Special attention was given to the main challenges from applying the sensors in the bins of each city.

LIFE EWAS project (“Efficient and sustainable waste management methodologies using ICT tools enabling GHG emissions reduction”) aims to foster innovation in the area of public and private interest of waste management by demonstrating the potential of new information technologies to optimise current EU waste management operational methodologies and to establish a way forward for the standard adoption of a more sustainable model.
