Life EWAS Technical Meeting took place in Athens on 13-14 th of July at the head office of D-WASTE and all partners attended the meeting. Namely, José Antonio Cabo and José Antonio Morales represented Wellness Telecom, José Andrés Ferrete, Jose Louis Comitre and Francisco Serrano represented LIPASAM, Ignasi Puig and Marta Jofra represented ENT, Panagiotis Chazirakis represented DEDISA, and Niki Mavropoulou and Antonis Mavropoulos attended from D-Waste.
The two days meeting was dedicated to the progress and the first results of the project. There were presentations from all partners on the development of the tasks, the fulfilment of the deliverables, and a productive discussion on the next steps. Special attention was given on the results from the monitoring of the sensors in the two pilot areas of Seville and Chania. More in particularly, LIPASAM presented with the help of Wellness Telecom the first results regarding the collection optimization which according to the exploitation of sensors’ data can lead to a reduction of cost which reaches up to 48%. DEDISA, also presented the final deployment of sensors in the glass bins and the first monitoring results from the already deployed sensors.
The second day was dedicated to a social event, where waste managers and local authorities’ representatives were informed on the results of EWAS project, and how the use of ICT technologies can potentially optimize waste management through improving collection system and cost reduction. In the event it was also presented the under development EWAS social platform which teach citizens how to recycle and improve their recycling. At the end of the event a productive discussion took place with attendants posing many questions regarding the data obtained from the sensors and the optimization of the routing resulted in cost reduction, whether people of the pilot areas welcome the deployment of the sensors and the expected results from the social platform for both municipalities and citizens .
